McClymonts Bridge Deconstruction

The old McClymonts Bridge has been replaced as part of the Northern Corridor Improvements (NCI) project. The new bridge is longer and wider and will allow for additional traffic lanes, the extended Northern Busway and a new shared use path underneath. Deconstruction of the old bridge has commenced and is expected to take up to three months to complete.

The demolition programme is complex that requires cranes to remove bridge beams and excavators to remove bridge abutments. Due to the nature of the work, some work can be completed during the day and some work can only be completed at night as traffic volumes are too high to safely work during the day.

There will be approximately four weeks of nightworks spread over the three month period. The first week of nightworks is programmed for Sunday 14th through to Thursday 18th June. Work is scheduled between 9pm and 5am and will require SH1 Northern Motorway closures between Oteha Valley Road and Greville Road. In the event of delays due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, work will roll to the next available night.
