Chris Dibble is Colliers International’s national director. He echoed Tony’s message of the vagaries of forecasting, citing the example of BNZ and Westpac which vary in their predictions of economic recovery by almost 24 months.

By sharing graphs broken down into regions and sectors (retail, industrial and office) Chris helped his audience understand not just the current situations with building, sales activity and land values, but how these compare to past trends. Read more.

NORTH HARBOUR COMMERCIAL PROPERTY GROUP:
PROPERTY & THE ECONOMY POST-ELECTION 2020

With Tony Alexander, Independent Economist

Tony began his presentation by focusing on the residential property market, and particularly how residential construction can be positive for the economy because of the high number of associated businesses involved, including materials’ manufacturers, tradies, engineers, and architects. He reported that the economy is performing far better than had been expected, but this is perhaps because forecasters had not much data to work with. Read more.

BUSINESS EVENT:
2020 Pre-ELECTION LUNCHEON

Business North Harbour’s (BNH’s) event was a memorable snapshot of an election in unprecedented times. To comply with COVID-19 Alert Level 2 protocols, North Harbour Stadium’s main lounge was divided by a clear acrylic wall, with no more than 100 people on either side.

An audience of the area’s small business owners and their guests tucked into snapper or rack of lamb, while MC Mike McRoberts introduced representatives from the five main political parties (in order of a random draw) for their six-minute presentations… Read more.

This is not the same as a business plan or a marketing strategy; it is a short-term (90-day) plan, which is closely monitored, reviewed at least monthly and adapted to suit changing circumstances.

Her thought for the day was a quote from Henry Ford:

When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it. Read more.

EMPLOYMENT LAW FUNDAMENTALS
RESTRUCTURING: HOW TO AVOID IT, AND HOW TO DO IT

LEADERSHIP AND RESILIENCE POST-COVID AND BEYOND
