B Lab began in the United States in 2006, and our network has grown across the world ever since. Our Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand team has collaborated with businesses, government, and academic to grow the movement in our region since 2013.
How to become a Certified B Corporation
Learn what it means to be a B Corp
Take a free online short course to understand the basics of being a B Corp. You’ll learn about B Lab values, processes, and standards, and find out how to think like a Certified B Corporation. You’ll appreciate the benefits of becoming a B Corp and get an idea of the certification process. After this course, you will be able to apply B Corp thinking to your role and business.
Gather your team
Assemble a team from across your business to simplify the assessment process. You will need to call on leadership and functional experts, like the people and culture, finance, operations, and legal teams, for answers.
Understand the process
Allow plenty of time to assess, collect documents, and improve your score. Start by reading our guide to understand the process. Go through the B Impact Assessment (BIA), answering as many questions as you can. Return to them as needed, making improvements and gathering supporting documents. When you get at least 80 points, submit your BIA to us for verification.
Check if your business is ‘complex’
Before you begin, contact us if any of the following describe your business to ensure you follow the correct process:
- Earns more than USD$100 million
- Operates in two or more industries
- Operates in five or more countries
- Has ten or more subsidiaries
