Get ready for changes to exporting to the European Union

Most New Zealand goods entering the EU will have tariffs removed entirely from 1 May, 2024.

What’s happening to exports to EU?

As part of a free trade agreement between New Zealand and the European Union, most New Zealand goods exported to the EU have had their tariffs – a tax paid at the border – removed entirely.

If you already export to the EU, this will reduce your costs of doing business in the EU market.

The aim of the free trade agreement is to create opportunities for all New Zealand businesses, no matter how small, to grow and invest, build connections in EU markets and diversify.

When do tariffs change?

Changes to tariffs happen on 1 May, 2024 when the free trade agreement comes into force.

The agreement was signed on 9 July 2023.
