The City Rail Link (CRL) will transform Auckland’s transport network by doubling the number of people able to reach the city centre within 30 minutes by public transport, while also reshaping the urban core. With two new stations — Te Waihorotiu and Karanga-a-Hape — an additional 21,000 residents, 17,200 students, and 37,000 jobs will be within a 12‑minute walk of rapid transit, significantly improving access to education, employment, and housing. By converting Britomart into a through‑station and connecting it to Mt Eden, the CRL will enable faster, more frequent train services across the region, reduce road congestion, and catalyse urban regeneration. As New Zealand’s largest transport infrastructure project, costing NZ$5.493 billion and set to open in 2026, it is expected to boost productivity, support city growth, and make Auckland’s centre more connected, sustainable, and vibrant.
