Most people I think would agree that 2022 was another very difficult year for many businesses as they continued to grapple with the ongoing challenges of the pandemic. Unfortunately, the experts are predicting even more financial pain ahead for us all in 2023, so there appears to be little or no respite in the foreseeable future. Added to these problems, just when we thought that things couldn’t get any worse, some businesses have suffered devastating losses caused by the recent severe weather events.
Bearing all this in mind, I would like to ask you to keep supporting our local businesses by shopping local and utilising locally available goods and services. Given the rather bleak economic forecast and the recent events, it is highly likely that, despite their best efforts, more businesses will become increasingly reliant upon the support of their local community. Any such support will give businesses the best chance of surviving the ongoing challenges and effects of the pandemic and the floods, which continue to adversely affect their ability to achieve and maintain financial sustainability.
Despite our current very challenging economic climate and our abnormally high rate of inflation, on a positive note, we still find ourselves in a better economic position than people in a number of other countries around the world such as the UK and the USA. Indeed, we can possibly find some comfort in the fact that double-digit inflation is affecting almost half of the world.
