Are There Better Times Ahead?

Following the change in Government after the General Election, we are all keen to see what positive changes come about as the new Government forges ahead with implementing their policies and promises once the make-up of any coalition has been agreed.

The ongoing ‘cost of living crisis’ and challenging economic climate which are putting pressure on businesses and households are two areas where people will be looking for some respite. There is already some positive news here with the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) showing that inflation is slowly coming down, sitting at 5.6% for the twelve months to the September 2023 quarter.

Consequently, some economists are predicting that there is now no reason for the Reserve Bank to implement any further increase to the Official Cash Rate (OCR) which in turn means that the high interest rates that we are all suffering from shouldn’t need to increase any further. Sadly though, it’s likely that any significant reduction in interest rates is still a long way off, with some economists predicting they will remain at raised levels until late 2024 or early 2025.

On another positive note, Business North Harbour is celebrating the many successes of our local business community by introducing the Purple Ink Business North Harbour Business Excellence Awards, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to come and join the celebrations at the Gala Dinner on Friday 17th November.
