Save water and save the day

A letter from Amanda Singleton, Chief customer officer Watercare Services Limited.

Kia ora

I would like to thank you for the efforts you are making in your business to reduce water usage as Auckland’s dams recover from this year’s drought, and we prepare for a dry summer.

Our daily water consumption figures show that together we are meeting our daily water usage target of 409 million litres a day on most days.

While it has been raining lately, our total dam storage is just 58.75 per cent – still far below what it normally would be at this time of year.

Some simple water-saving measures to consider include checking your meter, toilet and taps for leaks, fitting aerators on your taps to reduce water flow and using waterless car-cleaning methods. You may also want to look at our Be Waterwise guide for businesses for more ideas on water-saving initiatives.

Taking the message home

Today I would like to ask you to help us spread the message about ways to save water through your staff to their families. It would be great if you could share this infographic in your internal media. You can also encourage your staff to do this DIY interactive water check online. This service is designed to help Aucklanders identify simple water-saving opportunities specific to their households. Here’s a link you may want to share: www.ecomatters.org.nz/for-homes/saving-water/watercheck

Should you have space on your notice boards, it would be awesome if you could print and display one or more of these downloadable A3 posters.

I know you will have a lot of content you need to share with your staff about your own business and that my ask therefore is a big one. We need all the support we can get to save as much water as we can now and that is why we will appreciate every little bit you can do to help get the message out to Auckland households.
