Severe Weather Update – From Auckland Emergency Management

The current MetService warnings and watches in place are:

Heavy Rain Watch for Auckland south of Whangaparāoa, but excluding Hunua Ranges from 09:00 Thursday to 12pm Friday. Periods of heavy rain.

Heavy Rain Warning – Orange: Auckland from Whangaparaoa northwards from 9am Thursday to 8am Friday. Expect 90 to 120mm of rain on top of what has already fallen.

Heavy Rain Warning – Orange: Hunua Ranges from 9am Thursday to 12pm Friday. Expect 110 to 150mm of rain.

Heavy Rain Warning – Orange: Great Barrier Island from 9am Thursday to 11am Friday. Expect 120 to 170mm of rain.

Strong Wind Warning – Orange: Auckland to Great Barrier Island from 9am Thursday to 1am Friday. Severe gales gusting 120km/h in exposed places.

With already wet ground conditions there is an increased risk of surface flooding, rivers breaking banks, trees falling, and landslips. Please see key messaging below:

Stay up to date with forecasts, follow MetService New Zealand
Plan travel carefully, drive to the conditions and never drive through floodwater
Do not walk or play in floodwater, it can be contaminated, and contain hidden hazards and debris
