Te Hōnonga a Iwi – Restoring Rosedale Park

This ground-breaking five-year business-led project aims to restore a 4000m2 area within Rosedale Park using bio-organic principles to revitalise the land and the adjacent Alexander Stream, making the park a place where biodiversity can increase and local people can go to connect with nature.

Project goals

  • Undertake a planting and pest management programme, using bio-organic methodologies, that will promote soil health and water quality, improve tree survival and create a safer environment for birds and wildlife within the park and the wider surrounds.
  • Give the local community a renewed sense of belonging to the park by engaging a range of stakeholders in the project, including nearby residents, community groups, local iwi, educational and tertiary institutes in the area, sporting bodies using the park and the North Harbour business sector.
  • Offer environmental learning opportunities to all ages and abilities through involvement in the project.
  • Provide ongoing analysis of water quality and water conservation, aquatic biodiversity, bird counts, soil health, plant survival and growth, pest management counts and control, carbon emissions and international integrated value reporting.
  • Identify the feasibility of using bio-organisams and bio-organic processes to control weed, with a view to expanding this approach across Tāmaki Makaurau.
  • Document the ecological, social and commercial outcomes of the project.
  • Follow the principles of Te Ao Māori, environmental sustainability and social connectivity.

How can you be part of the project?

We need the North Harbour business community to get behind this project to increase the sustainability of the Ōteha area by:

  • Contributing services, equipment, or funds to ensure the success of this project – this could include volunteer labour, rainwater from your roofline, plumbing and engineering services, transport truck, supply of pallets, large rocks, renewable energy equipment and expertise, pumps, signage, IBCs, waste management, instructional design skills, website management, social media expertise, marcomms, legal advice, integrated value consults relating to the project outcomes.
  • Bringing your people along to help on volunteer days – great for team building!
  • Increasing awareness and support by promoting the project and your involvement to your customers, suppliers and wider network.
