Motorway Maintenance Work

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi would like to advise you of upcoming planned maintenance work on Auckland’s state highway network between Sunday 26 and Thursday 30 May 2024.

The closures in this email are not yet confirmed but we want to give you advance warning to plan ahead.  A confirmed schedule is sent out every Friday via the traffic bulletin. If you would like to receive this, please email info@asm.nzta.govt.nz.

Please note:

  • This work is weather dependent which may result in a change from advertised dates. Please check the NZTA Journey Planner for updates.
  • Ramp closures and lane restrictions may be in place before the advertised closure times for the mainline. On-ramp closure times are advertised every Friday on Auckland’s NZTA Traffic Bulletin.

Ongoing works:

SH1 Pioneer Road (North): The Pioneer Road northbound off-ramp remains closed. Please continue on SH1 and exit at Pokeno northbound off-ramp, turn around at McDonald Road and head south using Pokeno southbound on-ramp on SH1 to get off at Pioneer Road (South).Work will be ongoing until mid-June.

State Highway 1 (SH1):   

Oteha Valley Road to Constellation Drive: There will be a full southbound closure on Thursday 30 May between 10pm and 5am. Please use the recommended detour via Oteha Valley Road, Albany Expressway, Bush Road, Paul Matthews Road and Upper Harbour Highway.   

Constellation Drive to Oteha Valley Road: There will be a full northbound closure on Wednesday 29 May between 10pm and 5am. Exit at Constellation Drive and turn left onto SH18 to use the recommended detour via Paul Matthews Road, Bush Road, Albany Expressway and Oteha Valley Road.  Please note the SH18 eastbound to SH1 northbound link will also be closed. Follow the signposted detour.

Auckland Harbour Bridge: There will be northbound lane restrictions including the northbound clip-on lanes from Sunday 26 to Thursday 30 May between 9.30pm and 5am. Traffic will still be able to travel in both directions across the bridge.  

South Eastern Highway: The southbound off-ramp will be closed from Sunday 26 to Thursday 30 May between 9pm and 5am. Please continue to Mt Wellington southbound off-ramp and detour via Mt Wellington Highway, Waipuna Road and Carbine Road. Work will be ongoing until 30 June. 

Redoubt Road, Manukau: The northbound on-ramp will be closed from Monday 27 to Thursday 30 May between 10pm and 5am. Please use alternative on-ramps at Te Irirangi Drive or SH20 Lambie Drive.    

Drury interchange to Manukau interchange: There will be a full northbound closure on Sunday 26 May between 10pm and 5am. Please use the recommended detour via Great South Road and Redoubt Road.  

Bombay interchange to Drury interchange: There will be a full northbound closure on Monday 27 May between 9pm and 5am. Please use the recommended detour via Great South Road. 

Nikau Road to Bombay interchange: There will be a full northbound closure from Tuesday 28 to Thursday 30 May between 9pm and 5am. Traffic will still be able to travel north using one of the southbound lanes. Please slow down and follow traffic management instructions. 

Please note: Over dimension vehicles will not be able to use the contraflow. Please contact tmc@asm.nzta.govt.nz in advance for instructions.

State Highway 16 (SH16):

The Strand: There will be a full eastbound closure between Parnell Rise and Gladstone Road from Sunday 26 to Thursday 30 May between 10pm and 5am along The Strand. Please use the recommended detour via Beach Road, Tangihua Street and Quay Street.  

Rosebank Road to Patiki Road (local road): There will be westbound lane restrictions at Rosebank Road and Patiki Road (local roads) on Monday 27 May between 8pm and 5am. Traffic will still be able to travel west under traffic management supervision. Please slow down and follow instructions.   

Te Atatu Road: Te Atatu Road loop southbound on-ramp will be closed on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 May between 9pm and 5am. Traffic will still be able to travel in both directions. Please continue on Te Atatu Road (local road) and turn around at the roundabout to use Te Atau Road diamond southbound on-ramp.

Royal Road (local road): There will be eastbound lane restrictions on the Royal Road overbridge (local road) between Makora Road and Moire Road from Sunday 26 to Thursday 30 May between 9pm and 5am. Traffic will still be able to travel east under traffic management supervision. Please reduce your speed and follow traffic management instructions.

State Highway 20 (SH20):

Maioro Street: The southbound on-ramp will be closed on Tuesday 28 May between 9pm and 5am. Please use alternative on-ramp at Dominion Road. 

Neilson Street: There will be a full southbound closure between Neilson Street off-ramp and on-ramp on Monday 27 May between 10pm and 5am. Traffic will need to exit at Neilson Street southbound off-ramp. You will be able to turn around to use the Neilson Street southbound on-ramp. 

Rimu Road: The northbound on-ramp will be closed on Tuesday 28 May between 9pm and 5am. Please use alternative on-ramp at Coronation Road.  

Puhinui Road to Lambie Drive: There will be a full southbound closure from Sunday 26 to Thursday 30 May between 10pm and 5am. Please use the recommended detour via Puhinui Road, Noel Burnside Road, Cavendish Drive, Lambie Drive and Manukau Station Road to the SH1 Redoubt Road interchange.

State Highway 22 (SH22):

Paerata Road to Wesley College: Stop/go traffic management will be in place on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 May between 9pm and 5am. Please follow traffic management direction and stop when asked.

State Highway 2 (SH2):

Between Pendergrast Road and Steen Road: Stop/go traffic management will be in place at multiple locations on SH2 from Sunday 26 to Thursday 30 May between 9pm and 5am. Please follow traffic management directions and stop when asked.
