Financial support for businesses during this time

We’re getting in touch to let you know what support is available because of the change in COVID-19 Alert Levels.

All of the COVID-19 related business support listed below is outlined here and we will  keep the Work and Income website updated as changes happen.

Wage Subsidy

The Wage Subsidy March 2021 is a payment to support employers and self-employed people, so they can continue to pay employees and protect jobs for businesses affected by the rise in alert levels.

Following the announcement of the activation of the wage subsidy. Applications will be open from 1pm on Thursday 4 March 2021, and payments will begin from Monday 8 March 2021.

Resurgence Support Payment 

Inland Revenue’s Resurgence Support Payment is available now. It’s in addition to the other payments listed here.

It’s to help businesses whose revenue has reduced because of a COVID-19 Alert Level 2 or higher. Applications can be made in MyIR .

Short-Term Absence Payment

Businesses – including self-employed people – can apply for the Short-Term Absence Payment to help pay workers who can’t work from home while they wait for a COVID-19 test result (in line with public health guidance). 

It is a one-off payment of $350 for each eligible worker

Leave Support Scheme

The COVID-19 Leave Support Scheme is available to employers, including self-employed people, to help pay workers who can’t work from home and meet certain health criteria, e.g they have COVID-19 or are a defined by Ministry of Health as a ‘close contact’ who has been told to self-isolate for 14 days.

The Leave Support Scheme is paid for two weeks for each eligible employee at a flat rate of:

$585.80 a week for full-time workers (20 hours or more a week)
$350 a week for part-time workers (less than 20 hours a week).
